WFIM has a great tradition of giving, one that our members are very proud of. As Food Industry Professionals, bringing food to the table makes us particularly sensitive to doing whatever we can to nourish the needy. In that regard, we support charitable causes related to hunger relief and food rescue.
As Women, we also support charitable causes related to the support or development of women. In addition, when we have Speakers at our events, the Speaker’s honourarium may be donated to their charity of choice.
Second Harvest
Every day Second Harvest picks up excess fresh food that would otherwise go to waste, and delivers it to approximately 250 social service agencies in the Greater Toronto Area. The proceeds of many of our raffles are donated to Second Harvest.
Heifer International
Heifer International works with communities to end world hunger and poverty and care for the earth. Heifer empowers women by helping them to develop leadership skills so that they can have access to greater opportunities such as education and entrepreneurship. Cynthia Beretta, of Beretta Farms and Beretta Kitchen Catering, was WFIM’s speaker in April 2018, and she generously donated her speaker honourarium to Heifer International.
Children’s Breakfast Clubs
The Children’s Breakfast Club is a non-profit charitable organization that believes every child is entitled to a nutritious breakfast. An estimated 4,000 meals are served each week in the 20+ clubs across the Greater Toronto area. WFIM donated the proceeds from registration for the Burnbrae Farms tour in April 2015 to Children’s Breakfast Clubs, on behalf of Burnbrae Farms.
Multiple Sclerosis Society of Canada
In communities across Canada, the MS Society provides information, support, educational events and other resources for people living with MS and their families. Our February 2017 speaker, Beth Thompson, donated her speaker honorarium to the MS Society.
